About Lance
Born and raised in Peabody, Massachusetts, Lance enjoyed the typically childhood of any middle-class white family. His parents worked hard to provide for him and give him what needed, while he never felt that it was enough to keep up with his peers. He didn't always play nice with others and didn't always felt in--which made him something of a social hawk instead of the graceful butterfly. He has an older sibling who treated him like a human guinea pig--though often with great motivation generated by Lance. He wasn't quite an outcast but by not means accepted among his peers and he generated his frustrated about this ambivalent status into lots of bad poetry and even worse prose. He graduated high school in 1997 and moved onto Salem State College, where life assumed normality and made a lot more sense to him. He did well here, finally finding his place. He studied History with a Minor in Enlgish and certainly was active on campus.
Upon graduating, Lance begin working at Christian Book Distributors while also moving in with a close friend, Mandy, in an apartment in Danvers. This was a bit of a change of pace for him, working a 9-5 job and being an adult. He took to it all right but definitely was skeptical of his place of employment. By this point, he had abandoned his righteous "atheistic phase" for a more subdued agnostic and curious view of the world. However, there were only so many sermons at work that he could deal with. After the 2004 elections, Lance felt the need to go before his more conservative and fundamentalist coworkers got on his nerves any more. After spending four years as a whore-for-Jesus, he fled to the nonprofit world to work in residential programs. Along the way, he also began teaching college level history and literature as well as a course on comic books. Currently, he teaches at North Shore Community College and Salem State College. He also works in a residnetial program for GBLT teens. He also writers for several websites and magazines.
While all this was going on, he also went back to school to get an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice at North Shore Community College--mostly for the fun of it and because it was free. He followed this up with a Master's in American Studies with concentrations in Gender and Sexuality as well as Popular Culture at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. He is currently finishing a Master's in Public Administration from Suffolk University.
